WEEK 16:: “What’s in the Bag??”

This week is a sad week for our farm as we’ve lost our wild mascot: Big Bird. This is the nickname for our resident Great Blue Heron who travels to a nearby tributary of our creek and brings us an occasional squawk of welcome energy as it soars across our property. Thanks for shifting pickup to Thursday and Friday as we handled the issue of this protected bird with Conservation Police yesterday. It was a heavy day to realize the critical state of the wildlife in our area. We hope you will join us in blessing our land when you pick up this week.

This week full shares will experience the first of our cucumbers and all shares the beginning of our fall radishes, bursting with flavor and a bit of heat as you crunch into their zesty bulbs. There is a tad of lingering arugula and quite a patch of purslane and edible flower:nasturtium if any of you would like to add them to your shares, let me know.

New tomatoes coming in are the Black Prince, Green Zebra and Cherokee Purple, so you may see lots of color in your tomato selection (if you have a favorite, we can accommodate if you let us know!) Peppers are also turning yellow and red, so plenty of sweetness every other week for a few weeks to come yet.

If you love garlic, let us know you’d like more than a single bulb each week!

Remember, as a CSA member, you may take all the apples you can eat/share, so please bring a bushel basket if you want some extra this week!!
