2015 Volunteer Opportunities

UPCOMING MAY WORK DAYS:

  • WEDNESDAY, MAY 13th 8am to dusk (on the farm)
  • SUNDAY, MAY 17th noon to 4pm

If you have accepted a volunteer discount for our 2015 CSA share, please attend one of the following volunteer orientation dates to understand our guidelines for working on the farm. At the orientation, you will be given an opportunity to ask questions, offer your strongest skills to match tasks throughout the season and understand our requirements for environmental health and food safety throughout the season. Please RSVP as to what session you will be attending by sending an email to me at your earliest convenience to info@gratefulplains.com  We will meet at the farm, 2190 E 18th Rd Grand Ridge, 61325 MAY DATES TO BE DETERMINED WHEN MORE VOLUNTEERS ENROLL Bookmark this page and check back regularly throughout the season for specific dates and times and location of volunteer opportunities. REMOTE/ WORK FROM HOME VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES As with every major undertaking, much of the effort for getting shares to our customers all summer happens behind the scenes. For those of you less interested in getting your hands dirty and more likely to contribute tech skills or marketing/advertising, here are some regular tasks that I can always use an extra hour or two of support each week:

  • write blog entries for the website
  • share your personal experience of the 2014 season to be included in our annual report
  • edit 2014 annual report
  • paint signs for 2015 garden
  • make labels for seedlings
  • edit and organize garden recipes for newsletter

MAY TASK LIST FOR HANDS-ON OPPORTUNITIES ANY TIME YOU ARE AVAILABLE:

  • water seedlings in greenhouse (daily–3-6 hours)
  • plant onions, potatoes, carrots, beets, spinach (week of 4-29)
  • pot up seedlings (March through May–3 to 4 hours per variety)
  • prepare planting beds (several days)
  • sanitize tools, organize shed
  • man the shop for sales of seedlings/seed packs (any day, all day, few hours)
  • build irrigation system (including rain barrel setup)
  • stakes for tomato rows (by May/June, but can be setup early)
