Many of us Northerners are not aware of this edible thistle that is typically a perennial in warmer climates. We added this to our community garden in Grand Ridge last year and cut a few of the artichokes off early in the season and then let a few more go to seed. The gorgeous iridescence of the bright lavender bloom is one I loved the most during the 2013 season. So it will likely be a staple in our gardenscape each year.
